The idea I had was to use this little package as a documentary camera to capture a portfolio of “Safari images” that one would not normally focus on during a photographic safari. Let us have a quick look at the official specifications:

My thoughts being on safari with a Canon M50 mirrorless camera
- The system is compact and served the purpose as a lightweight, convenient safari camera that fitted perfectly in my line up while on this expedition.
- It had great ergonomics, fitted well in my hands and the touch screen focus of the LCD was a helpful point while shooting the wider type images.
- The raw images were of really great quality and the colour tones and sharpness when viewing in Digital Photo Professional (Canons raw processor ) exceptional.
- The Video feature was really great and I managed to get a huge library of quality clips for use in international stock video sales.
- The response time and lag during frames were minimal for the type of photography I was shooting.
- The image stabiliser was a great asset when shooting handheld and in low light for the wide angle shots.
- The focus was spot on for the type of images I was after. It is not a high-speed tracking camera for wildlife or action so I did not try and evaluate it for that.
More to think about the Canon M50 mirrorless camera
- I did not test the lens adapter and my other Canon L lenses on this trip. On a few other outings, it has performed beyond expectations in the field.
- With the addition of the Canon, EF–M 55-200mm f4.5-6.3 IS STM lens to the kit I feel you will have a super kit. This would make sure for getting high-quality images within a good budget
