I was recently introduced to a very inspiring young photographer, Ernest Porter a fellow CANON nut . A mere 22 years young he has a passion for birds and specifically those that are found in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Gardens in South Africa.

We share a passion for raptors and had shared some images and experiences but what inspired me was to hear of a project he has personally just finished. Below is the cover of his first book …..

I asked Ernest why and this what he had to say ………

I decided to create a pocket sized bird booklet after seeing the birding interest of visitors to the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden.

Special features of the Bird Booklet:

* A unique grouping-layout to compare similar-looking birds

* 97 bird species illustrated.

* Tick boxes to hunt down and keep record of birds seen.

* Small A6-size (14.8cm by 10.5cm) to easily keep in your pocket.

The bird booklet will be sold by the Botanical Society of South Africa in the Walter Sisulu National Botanical Garden for R30 each. The bird booklet has already gone to the printer and should be available before December 2013.

This is a truly incredible story and shows true dedication and patience !!

Here are a few of Ernest’s personal favourite images from the botanical gardens …..Inspiring.
